ARTIST STATEMENT

Born in Oregon, traveled the world via Pan Am, Sue lived in Miami, New York, San Francisco and Seattle for a time.   She lived in Breckenridge in the Colorado Mountains for many years, then the Arizona desert and now in the Texas Hill Country.  She normally paints from her memories and thoughts and all the places she has lived and visited have a significant effect on her work. Sue is a professional artist, working in acrylics, oils and watercolor.     She studied foreign languages and fine art at both the University of Oregon and Arizona State University.   She has attended many workshops  some of her favorites, Millard Sheets, Glen Bradshaw, Robert Wood and Skip Lawrence.  An avid studio painter and instructor, Sue is a signature member of the Texas Watercolor Society and has won many awards in other juried competitions.

She says, " Painting is the product of my life experiences.  I paint what I am, what I believe in and care about and sometimes what tickles my funny bone.  For many years I have been painting only from my memories and feelings so my works tell the stories of places lived and visited, thus the water, palm trees, bright colors with a little added punch here and there.    I am a semi-abstract, sometimes abstract painter with a style that is sometimes hard to define.   Normally I paint in a series.   Some are of a more serious nature and in others; I try to take the viewer into a world full of fun and whimsy.   Sometime my sense of humor gets the best of me.    If it makes me smile and feels "right", then I know the piece is done.   What a great adventure!"
